Impact of a Digital Nanny Marketplace on Speed and Safety of Childcare Hiring
Enabling Kenyan parents to instantly access a pool of pre‑verified nannies through a digital matching platform will significantly reduce the time and perceived risk of hiring childcare, leading to higher platform adoption and repeat usage compared to traditional word‑of‑mouth and social media referrals.

Key Features
User onboarding
Moms/parents create accounts by providing basic details, location, childcare needs, and preferences (hours, age of child, experience level, etc.). Nannies sign up with personal details, skills, experience, availability, and references so they can be discovered on the platform.
Profile creation and verification
Nannies build rich profiles with bio, work history, skills (e.g., infant care, housekeeping), languages, expected pay, and availability calendar. The platform team verifies nannies (ID checks, interviews, possibly background validation) and marks them as verified so parents can trust who they are viewing.
Matching and discovery
Moms log in and use filters such as location, availability, experience level, and specific skills to search for suitable nannies. A matching engine recommends best‑fit nannies based on both sides’ profiles and preferences, surfacing top candidates instead of forcing parents to sift manually.
Communication and shortlisting
Parents view nanny profiles, ratings, and reviews, then shortlist a few candidates they like. The platform provides secure messaging or in‑app chat so parents and nannies can ask questions, clarify duties, and agree on expectations before any hire.
Booking, payment, and confirmation
Once a parent chooses a nanny, they send a booking request specifying dates, times, and location; the nanny can accept or decline based on availability. For hourly/short‑term jobs, the parent confirms the booking and pays through the platform (card, mobile money, etc.), which holds or processes funds as per the business model.
Security, monitoring, and support
The system applies authentication, encrypted data storage, and automated fraud checks to protect user data and platform activity. Customer support intervenes in disputes, handles refunds where applicable, and assists users with onboarding or technical issues.
Product Impact
The product is still very new in the market, so its full impact is yet to be observed and measured. Early adoption is focused on onboarding both nannies and parents, refining matching, and validating that the digital model can reliably replace informal hiring channels over time.
